GOOD OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 1/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter or soft shortening
2 c. uncooked rolled oats
1 egg
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 c. milk
1/2 c. coconut or nuts (or both)

Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and nutmeg into a bowl. Add soft shortening, brown sugar, egg and milk. Beat until smooth. Stir in rolled oats and coconut and nuts.

Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake in moderate oven 12 to 15 minutes. Cool. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
