GRANDMOTHER KERR'S ORANGE ROLLS | |
1 c. milk 1/4 c. sugar 1 pkg. yeast 1 egg, beaten 1/4 c. shortening 1 tsp. salt 1/4 c. lukewarm water 3 1/2 c. flour CREAM MIXTURE: 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter Grated peel of 2 oranges Scald milk. Add shortening, sugar and salt. Cool to lukewarm; add yeast that has been dissolved in warm water. Add beaten egg. Stir in flour gradually to form a soft dough. Beat vigorously. Cover and let rise in warm place (about 82 degrees) until double in bulk. Toss on lightly floured board and roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Spread with cream mixture. Roll up and seal by pinching dough with fingers. Cut into 1 inch slices; place cut side down in greased shallow pan, cover; let rise until double in bulk. Bake 25 minutes at 375 degrees. |
