FROSTED MEAT LOAF 
1 egg
1/3 c. quick-cooking rolled oats
1/3 c. bottled barbecue sauce
1/2 tsp. salt
Dash pepper
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
Packaged instant mashed potatoes (enough for 4 servings)
3 slices American cheese

EQUIPMENT:

Measuring cups and spoons
Large mixing bowl
Fork
13x9x2-inch baking pan
Ruler
Hot pads
Saucepan
Table knife
2 pancake turners

In the bowl beat egg with fork until it is mixed. Add oats, barbecue sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir to mix well. Add ground beef. Mix in with your hands.

Put meat mixture into the baking pan. Use your hands to shape meat into an 8x4-inch loaf. Put pan in oven. With adult help, turn oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 1 hour 15 minutes.

With adult help, use hot pads to remove pan from oven and drain off fat in pan. With adult help, fix potatoes. Follow directions on package, but use only 1/2 the milk. Use knife to spread potatoes over the top and sides of meat loaf to cover it. With adult help, put meat loaf in oven. Bake 15 minutes. Turn off oven.

With adult help, remove pan from oven. Put cheese on top. Use 2 pancake turners to put loaf on a serving plate. Makes 6 servings. Age 8
