PRUNE CAKE WITH ORANGE SAUCE | |
1 c. vegetable oil 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. allspice 1/2 tsp. cloves 2 c. plain flour 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. buttermilk 3 eggs 1 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 c. prunes, cooked & chopped 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 c. prune juice 3/4 c. black walnuts, chopped Cream sugar and oil together. Add eggs and beat well. Combine with other ingredients and mix well. Pour into well-greased and floured pan and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. ORANGE SAUCE FOR PRUNE CAKE: 1 c. sugar 2 tbsp. cornstarch 1/2 c. boiling water Juice of 2 oranges Juice of 1 lemon 1/4 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. butter Combine sugar, salt and cornstarch. Add water, stirring constantly. Add orange and lemon juices and butter. Cook on low heat until thick and then spread on cake. |
