I have used my mother-in-law's recipe (this one) for 35 years. The last 2-3 times I have made them, the sugar continues to be granulated, in other words, they are grainy, not smooth. WHAT am I doing wrong??? Help!!

I make this in the microwave. 3 minutes. High for 1 minute then stir and so on. You may want to do this 4 times depending on your microwave and where your altitude. I usually do 4 because it sets up better. Add peanut butter, oats and vanilla after microwaving. It is great! You don't have to use the cocoa if you prefer plain. :)

These have always been my favorite! For those looking for a bit healthier option, you can use non hydrogenated shortening instead of butter, almond butter instead of peanut butter, almond milk or coconut milk instead of regular milk and Dutch cocoa!

I used dark chocolate almond milk instead of regular milk. The almond milk gives the cookies a richer bolder taste.

I just wanted to say I have made a no make chocolate oatmeal cookies for my whole life. It does not include peanut butter, and uses canned milk. My recipe book I made in second grade I included that recipe. Glad to see it is still around with a few new additives. I am making mine this year for Christmas in memory of my mother. I am now 62 years old so that tells you how many Christmas's we made these in our home. YUMMY AND EASY FOR YOUR KIDS TO HELP. Thank you

Instead of peanut butter or you can do half and half of this try Nutella, you won't be disapointed

My grandmother used to add about one cup cocoa crispies. It made the cookies a little less dense and gave them a nice crunch. Just be sure to add the Coco crispies last because they don't absorb the moisture.

 Bill (Virginia) says:
I use 1 cup brown sugar and 1 cup white sugar. It makes them a little richer, in my opinion. I also let them sit in the pan with the lid on for a few minutes before dropping them as individual cookies; I think that helps them set up better.

Hi there for a healthy way change to Chocolate Protein powder, you can even add cranberries, walnuts, raw sugar instead of white, you can decide...I make them as a protein recovery after a long cycle or run.

I only used one cup of sugar and organic milk, 1/4 cup of organic peanut butter. Much healthier cookie, and the kids loved them.
