1 egg
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup boiling water

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Put ingredients into mixing bowl in order given and beat vigorously with rotary egg beater or electric mixer.

Bake in preheated oven 30-40 minutes.
