BANANA NUT BREAD 
1/4 c. soft shortening
3/4 c. sugar
2/3 c. mashed bananas
1 egg
3 tbsp. sour milk or buttermilk
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. nuts

Mix together shortening, sugar, bananas, egg and milk. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Add to liquid mixture, stir until dry ingredients are moistened. Add nuts. Line bread pan with greased paper. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.

Note: To save on sugar, use 1/2 cup corn syrup and only 1/4 cup sugar. (Reduce liquid to 1 tablespoon if syrup is used.)
