ITALIAN COOKIES 
3 c. plain flour
1/2 lb. Crisco
3 tbsp. baking powder
1 doz. eggs
1 lb. sugar
3 tsp. Anise flavoring
2 tsp. vanilla
The skins of 2 grated lemons

Mix flour, baking powder, and blend in Crisco. Beat eggs well and put in sugar as it beats. Mix grated lemon skins and add both flavoring. Then mix until all ingredients are used. Mix well but don't handle too much. Bake at 400 degrees about 10 to 12 minutes. Use a cookie machine. Before baking, cover dough and let stand for an hour or two. Do not refrigerate, it handles better.
