GERMAN APPLE CAKE 
5 apples, pared & cut into thin slices
5 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
3 c. flour
2 1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
4 eggs
1 c. cooking oil
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. orange juice

Pare 5 apples and cut into thin slices. Mix 5 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Sprinkle over apples and toss. Set aside.

Put remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl. Blend together with mixer on low speed for 1 minute, then 3 minutes on medium speed.

Add:

1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

Mix 1 minute more. Grease tube pan. Fill with alternating layers of batter and apples. (3 layers of batter and 2 layers of apples, beginning and ending with batter.) Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Cool.
