HUSH PUPPIES 
1 c. self-rising corn meal
1 tsp. sugar
1 tbsp. self-rising flour
3/4 c. (or more) water or buttermilk
1 minced onion
1 tbsp. cooking oil
1 egg

Mix all ingredients together. Drop into deep fat heated to 350 degrees. Cook at this temperature until golden brown or hush puppy floats. Drain on paper towels.

NOTE: Hush puppy mixture drops from spoon easier if the spoon is dipped in a cup of cold water frequently. For round hush puppies, use a small spoon. For long hush puppies, drop from side of tablespoon.
