CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs, beaten
2 c. oatmeal
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 or 2 c. chocolate chips

Cream shortening and sugars. Add vanilla. Add beaten eggs. Measure oatmeal and add to mixture. Sift flour with salt, baking powder, and soda. Then add with walnuts and chocolate chips. (I like part butterscotch with the chocolate.) Also add 1 teaspoon hot water and 2 cups Rice Krispies.

Drop on greased cookie sheets and bake 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 5-6 dozen depending on size of cookies. Makes a stiff dough, may have to roll in hands and flatten with fork dipped in cool water. Very good eating.
