RED DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. sour milk OR
1/2 c. milk & 1 1/2 tsp. vinegar to sour

Cream together butter, sugar and eggs. Add flour, cocoa, soda and salt. Add the sour milk. Mix together well. Add vanilla. When thoroughly mixed, add the boiling (or hot) water, mixing well. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

If self-rising flour is used, omit the salt. Baking times may vary, according to pans used. Frost as desired.
