RED DEVILS FOOD CAKE 
2 c. sifted cake flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. red food coloring
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
1/3 c. cocoa
2 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. instant coffee
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. boiling water

Sift flour, salt, cocoa and instant coffee together, set aside. Gradually add sugar to shortening, creaming well. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla and food coloring. Add alternately dry ingredients and buttermilk. Stir soda into boiling water, add and mix until smooth. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

ICING:

3 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter

Melt butter, add sugar, milk and flour. Cook until thickens. Ice cooled cake.
