LAYERED PASTRY 
1 c. unsifted flour
1/2 c. butter
2 tbsp. water
1 cup water
1/2 c. butter
1 c. unsifted flour
1 tsp. almond extract
3 eggs

In mixing bowl, cut first two ingredients with pastry blender and stir in water. Shape into ball and divide in half. Pat each half into a strip 12 x 3 inches on large ungreased cookie sheet, 3 inches apart. Bring 1 cup water and 1/2 cup butter to boil in large sauce pan. Then remove from heat and add 1 cup unsifted flour, all at once, mixing vigorously using a wooden spoon until mixture forms a ball. Add almond extract and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Spread mixture on the 2 pastry strips on cookie sheet. Bake 50 to 60 minutes at 350 degrees until golden brown. Cool slightly and frost with mixture of 1/3 cup melted butter, 2 cups powdered sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and 2 + 4 tablespoons hot water. Sprinkle on almonds
