MARGARITA'S HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE
CHIP COOKIES
 
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
1/2 shortening (I use butter flavor Crisco)
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cups all-purpose or unbleached flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375°F.

In a large bowl, beat brown sugar, sugar, butter and shortening until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and egg; blend well.

Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt; mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonful 2-inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake at 375°F for 8 to 10 minutes or until they are light golden. Cool for 5 minutes.
