MOTHER'S DIXIE BISCUITS | |
1 pt. milk 1 tsp. lard 2 tsp. butter 2 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1/2 yeastcake 6 c. flour Put milk on stove in double boiler with butter, salt, lard, and sugar. When milk becomes scalded, add to milk when cooled, 2 1/2 cups of flour and mix to a stiff batter. Next add an egg well beaten to the batter and put the batter in a warm place to rise. Let it rise about 5 hours and then knead. As with any ordinary biscuit using 3 1/2 cups flour, knead until dough can be handled easily, then roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Rub each biscuit with melted butter, put two biscuits together and place in pan far enough apart not to touch. Bake 15 or 20 minutes in hot oven. |
