2 c. sugar 1 c. molasses 1/4 c. water 2 tsp. vinegar 2 tbsp. butter 1/2 tsp. baking soda Butter sides of heavy 2 quart pan. Mix together sugar, molasses and water. Heat slowly, stirring constantly, bring to a boil; add vinegar, cook to light crack stage (268 degrees). Remove from heat; add butter and soda, stir well. Turn out on a buttered platter. Let cool until you can handle; use finger tips to pull candy, may either butter or dip finger in cornstarch to keep candy from sticking. Pull until light in color and gets hard to pull, cut into fourths, pull a little more. Cut to bite-size pieces, wrap each piece in wax paper. |
