CHERRY-DATE NUT BREAD 
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 c. buttermilk
4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. coarse chopped nutmeats
1 pkg. dates, cut up
1 large jar maraschino cherries

Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. Add buttermilk. Mix in dry ingredients.

Bake 1 hour at 350°F.

Makes 2 loaves.
