FRENCH MEAT PIE 
2 tbsp. oil
1 lg. onion, thinly sliced
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. ground pork
1 c. mashed potatoes
2 tsp. ground allspice, optional
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
Pastry for double crust pie 9 inch
1 egg, beaten, optional

In skillet heat oil over medium heat. Saute onions until tender. Remove and set aside. Brown beef and pork together. Drain. Combine onions, meat, potatoes, and seasoning. Line pie plate with pastry. Fill with meat mixture. Put top crust on and seal. Make slits in top crust. Brush with egg if desired. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 6 to 8 servings. Makes a good dish for New Year's Eve with salad.
