MEATLOAF IN FRENCH BREAD 
1 lb. ground beef
1/3 c. minced onion
1 egg
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. pepper

Cut thin slice off entire length of French bread. Hollow out bread leaving 3/4 inch wall. Soak 2 cups of the bread in a full can of evaporated milk. Combine all of the above ingredients, adding the bread. Place mixture in the bread cavity. Put cut slice back on the bread. Wrap in aluminum foil and bake 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees.

I had this recipe years ago and lost it and then found it here. It takes 2 hours to cook. I've turned up the temp to 375 or 400°F and still takes 1 1/2 hours. It tastes great but it's a fine balancing act to keep the bread from getting too hard.
