SHOOFLY PIE 
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. cloves
1/8 tsp. ginger
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 c. corn oil butter
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. dark molasses
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 unbaked 8-inch pastry shell

Combine first 7 ingredients in a large bowl. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender of 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. Combine the water, molasses, and baking soda, then blend in egg. Arrange alternate layers of crumbs and molasses in the pastry shell, beginning and ending with crumbs. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees and bake 15 minutes longer.
