FRENCH FRIED ONION RINGS 
1 lg. onion
1 egg
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Slice onion about 1/4 inch thick. Separate into rings and soak in ice water for about two hours. Drain and dry. Dip in batter made by beating egg, add buttermilk, and flour, salt and soda. Fry in deep fat until brown. Drain on paper towel.
