APPLE PAN DOWDY | |
1 c. sifted flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 c. shortening 1/3 c. milk 6 med. apples 3 tbsp. brown sugar 3 tbsp. molasses 1/4 c. nutmeg 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. hot water Heat oven to 400 degrees. Make biscuit dough from first 5 minutes. Wash, pare, core and slice apples into a 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle apples with remaining ingredients and pour hot water over them. Bake 20 minutes until apples are tender. Remove dish from oven and cover apples with biscuit dough. Bake in oven 15-20 minutes longer until crust is browned. Serve hot or cold with whipped ream or ice cream. |
