SOUTHERN FRIED OKRA | |
1/2 lb. okra 1 egg 2 tbsp. milk 1/2 c. self rising flour (or Bisquick) 1/4 c. cornmeal 1/2 tsp. salt Pepper to taste Cooking oil Wash okra. Cut in 1 inch slices. Combine egg and milk, beating well. Combine flour and cornmeal. Sprinkle okra with salt and pepper. Dip okra in egg mixture and dredge in flour mixture. Heat oil to 375 degrees. Place dredged okra in wire basket (just enough to cover bottom of basket). Place basket in deep fat for 1 to 3 minutes. Drain and serve. Can be used for onions, mushrooms and squash. |
