ITALIAN CREAM CAKE WITH ICING 
1 stick butter
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
5 eggs, separated
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. coconut
1 tsp. vanilla
5 egg whites, stiffly beaten

ICING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1/2 stick butter
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and beat mixture until smooth. Add egg yolks and beat well. Combine flour and soda; add to cream mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir in vanilla and add coconut and pecans. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into 3 (9 inch) greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done.
