SNICKERDOODLES 
1/2 c. soft shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

TOPPING:

2 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon

Mix shortening, sugar and eggs thoroughly. Sift together and stir in the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt; chill dough. Roll into balls size of walnuts.

Combine sugar and cinnamon and roll each ball into the mixture. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees until lightly browned but still soft. Cookies will puff up but will flatten as they cool with crinkled tops. Makes 5 dozen 2- inch cookies.
