CHRISTMAS FRUITCAKE 
6 cups raisins or 2 cups white raisins or currants
2 cups prunes
8 1/2 cups mixed candied fruit
3 cups walnuts
1 tbsp orange rind
1/2 cups fruit juice
5 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 lb. shortening crisco
2 cups white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons cloves
1 teaspoon allspices
2 teaspoons mace
1 teaspoon vanilla
10 well beaten eggs

Rinse raisins and drain on towel. Pour boiling water over prunes. Let stand 10 minutes. DRAIN DRY, use scissors and cut up. Combine nuts, rind, all fruits. Pour juice over and let stand.

*Mix separate. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together. Cream shortening, sugars and eggs and spices. Mix well and add flour mixture and vanilla. Stir well and add to fruit. Mix well until all fruit is evenly distributed. Pour into loaf pans that are well lined with well greased brown paper.

Bake at 275°F from 3 3/4 to 4 hours.

Makes 10 pounds. Wrap in juice (wring out) soaked gauze (cheesecloth). Place in foil and cool place to ripen.
