1 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder

Add:

1 1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. milk

Mix well with beater. Dice 5 apples and add to dough with 1 teaspoon vanilla. Sprinkle top of cake with:

2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. flour
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. light brown sugar

Mix together. Bake 40 to 50 minutes in 8 x 8 inch well greased pan in 350 degree oven.
