FRENCH FRIED ONION RINGS 
2 lg. onions
1 c. sugar
Ice water
1 c. self-rising flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2/3 c. water
2 tbsp. cooking oil
2 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Slice onions 1/8 inch thick and separate into rings. Mix the flour, salt, water, cooking oil and egg whites. Mix sugar and sufficient ice water to cover onions. Soak for 1 hour. Dip rings into flour mixture and fry in deep frying pan at 375 degrees until brown. Drain on paper towels.
