1/2 cup warm water
1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening
1 tbsp. salt
1 cup mashed potatoes, cooled

Beginner baker here. Any suggestions on how to make it w/out the shortening, or rather something I can substitute it with?

 Saydee (Illinois) replies:
You could probably use all butter (since butter is shortening), but as a beginner it would be better for you to stick with the recipe.

We use coconut oil as a healthy substitute for shortening and it tastes really good too!

You can substitute "Earth Balance butter" in place of the shortening.
