2 c. sifted all-purpose flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. shortening 2/3 to 3/4 c. cold water Cinnamon sugar Honey Oil or shortening Sift flour, baking powder and salt together into a bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle water over top and work in gradually until dough will just hold together, like pie pastry. Turn out on a lightly floured surface and knead gently about 30 seconds. Roll out thin as possible. Cut into 2 inch squares. Fry one or two at a time in 365 degree oil or shortening, turning until puffed and golden brown on both sides. Drain on absorbent paper. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar while still hot or dip in honey. Makes 2 1/2 to 3 dozen. |
