3 c. flour (plain) 3/4 c. buttermilk 6 tbsp. Crisco 1 pkg. yeast 1/4 c. warm water 3 tsp. baking powder 3 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda Sift dry ingredients (except baking soda which is added to buttermilk). Add Crisco and mix. Add yeast, which has been dissolved in 1/4 cup lukewarm water and mix. Add buttermilk and baking soda; mix. Place on floured board. Roll to desired thickness (1/4" to 1/2"). Cut with cutter. Put in lightly greased pan. Brush with melted butter and let rise 1 hour. Bake at 450 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes. |
