FROSTY DATE MUFFINS 
1 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. uncooked oatmeal
1/2 c. chopped dates
3 tbsp. liquid shortening
1 egg
3/4 c. milk
6 pitted dates, sliced lengthwise (opt.)
Orange Confectioners' Sugar Frosting

Sift together the dry ingredients; stir in the oats and dates. Add the shortening and milk, which have been mixed together. Stir only until the dry ingredients are moistened. Fill muffin cups 2/3 full. Place a half date on batter in each cup (optional). Bake in 425 degree oven for 15 minutes (approximately). Drizzle while still warm with orange (or lemon) frosting.

ORANGE CONFECTIONERS' SUGAR FROSTING:

1 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
1 tbsp. milk (more or less to make it slightly runny)
1/2 tsp. orange or lemon flavoring

Mix together until smooth and drizzle over warm muffins.
