GINGER PICKLES 
1 gal. cucumbers, sliced 1/4 inch or less thick
1 c. salt
1 gal. cold water
1 gal. cold water
1 tbsp. alum
1 gal. hot water
1 tbsp. ginger

SYRUP:

8 c. sugar
2 2/3 c. white vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 box mixed spices

Let cucumbers, salt and water stand 5 days. Drain on sixth day, wash. Add alum and water. Let stand overnight. Drain. Seventh day add hot water and ginger and simmer for 20 minutes. Drain. Add syrup and simmer 20 minutes more and put in jars.
