CALIFORNIA MEAT LOAF 
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1/4 c. dry red wine
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. bread crumbs
1/4 tsp. sage
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1 sm. onion, diced
1/4 c. water
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. green pepper, diced
1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
1 c. sliced mushrooms
1 c. stuffed green olives

Combine all but last 3 ingredients. Turn mixture onto waxed paper. Pat and roll all to a 12-inch square. Sprinkle cheese, mushrooms and olives over meat. Roll like a jelly roll. Place seam side down on rack in shallow pan. Bake at 350 degrees about 1 1/2 hours. Slice like jelly roll when slightly cool. (I sometimes serve with light mushroom gravy, especially if extra lean ground beef is used.)
