LADY BIRD'S PECAN PIE 
1 c. dark syrup
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. chopped pecans
3 eggs, beaten
1 unbaked 9 inch pie shell

Mix first 3 ingredients in a sauce pan. Simmer until sugar is melted, remove from heat, add vanilla and pecans. Beat eggs until frothy, add to mixture, pour into pie shell.

Bake 40 minutes at 325°F.

You didn't say when to add butter, I added it after the sugar is melted and removed from heat. I stirred butter until melted. This is an amazing pie! I used home made butter pie crust.

I've used Lady Bird's recipe since the 1960's. I think the first step of melting the sugar is part of the success of this recipe. Turn off heat. Add butter with the vanilla and pecans. Add foamy, beaten eggs & turn into pie shell. My copy of her recipe says to "Cool and refrigerate. May be served with or without whipped cream. Make a day or two before, if desired."
