MRS. BERTILE'S CARAMEL CAKE 
Duncan Hines butter recipe cake mix

Mix cake according to box instructions in an oblong cake pan.

ICING:

2 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. evaporated milk
3/4 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Put sugar in boiler that won't stick. Over medium heat let brown slightly around edges. Add 1 1/4 cups evaporated milk. Cook until a drop in cold water will form a soft ball. Remove from heat. Add 3/4 stick of butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat or whip with wooden spoon until it's a thickness to spread over cake.
