2 lbs. beans
3 slices bacon, chopped, fried (reserve drippings)
Grated cheese
Clean beans by checking for rocks. Wash well in cold water. Place beans in soup pot and cover with water. Soak overnight. Drain. Cover beans with water, salt to taste. Add bacon. Boil covered for 2 hours or under tender. Keep checking water and add more until beans are done. Warm 2 tablespoons bacon drippings for every 3 to 4 cups beans and combine. Mash. Add water or bean juice if beans dry out before they are mashed. Add grated cheese and serve with warm tortillas, if desired.
