APPLE SPICE BREAD 
2 c. sifted enriched flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. grated raw apples
2 tbsp. vinegar plus water to make 1/2 cup
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Sift flour, soda, salt and spices together. Cream shortening; blend in sugar and add eggs, one at a time and beat until smooth. Add vanilla. Add mixture alternately with grated apple and liquid. Stir in nuts.

Turn into greased 8 3/4 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch loaf pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees). 1 hour or until done. Remove from pan and cool several hours or overnight before slicing.
