CHOCOLATE ICE BOX COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
3 sq. chocolate (unsweetened)
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. sour milk (buttermilk)
4 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. broken nutmeats (walnuts)

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add melted chocolate, vanilla and salt and mix. Dissolve soda in sour milk and stir into mixture. Add nutmeats. Sift flour with baking powder and combine with other mixture.

Shape into long rolls, wrap in waxed paper and leave in refrigerator for several hours. Slice when needed and bake in hot oven for 10-12 minutes.
