MEATLESS KIDNEY BEANS LENTEN

1 can white kidney beans, lima beans, or 1/2 lb. white kidney beans soaked overnight in 1 tsp. baking soda and washed and drained
1 1/2 qt. water
2 sm. onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 tsp. salt
1/3 c. olive oil
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tbsp. tomato paste, diluted in 1/2 c. water

Fry onion and garlic in oil. Add seasonings. Pour over prepared beans and water. simmer 1 hour until beans are tender. Add tomato paste diluted in 1/2 cup water and simmer 15 minutes until thickened.
