ANGEL FLAKE BISCUITS
1 pkg. yeast
3/4 c. lard (shortening)
5 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. salt
2 c. buttermilk (or sour milk)
5 tbsp. warm water (110 degrees)
5 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3 tbsp. sugar

Dissolve yeast in water; set aside. Mix flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar. Cut in lard until about the size of small peas. Add buttermilk to the yeast mixture in a large bowl. Add the flour mixture to the yeast mixture and mix well.

Roll out dough on well floured board and cut into biscuits. Put on ungreased cookie sheet. Put in oven and THEN TURN OVEN ON TO 450 degrees. This will cause biscuits to rise while they cook. Watch them carefully so they don't burn, about 10 minutes in oven. Dough can be refrigerated for a few days. Don't let it take over your refrigerator.

If you love yeast breads and want to have it NOW, here is a recipe which satisfies both desires and is also good cold, split and filled with cheese.
