I believe the original recipe on the Bisquick box mixed whole kernel corn in with the beef. It's a great basic recipe for kids who don't want all the extras.

This should be called "Bisquick Casserole, Basic." I give this five stars because I saw what this recipe to be and for me, it was a eureka moment: it's a basic, "ground floor" recipe that you can add to or take away from with such ease to build up to one heckuva casserole you and the family will end up wanting again and again. It's all about one's own taste. Take away meat and you can add veggies. Take away some of the milk (liquid) and you can add things like tomato, zucchini or squash (very fluid veggies). Add herbs to your own taste, i.e., add sage if you use sausage or wurst; add basil and/or rosemary if you use ground turkey or chicken; or add some sodium-free seasoning on whatever you add/take away, especially if you're on a sodium restricted diet. Firm tofu, fried up first, would also work very well with this. The possibilities aren't endless, but there sure is a LOT more possibilities than just sticking to this basic recipe. It's a great recipe all the same. I, too, however, had to bake my first one for 45 mins, using my own homemade Bisquick mix.

This is a god base recipe for many different versions. I used 2 cans tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and greek seasoning to make an awesome greek casserole. I have also done a mexican style using the canned tomatoes, mexican cheeses and spices and adding frozen corn. I always cut up one onion to add to browned hamburger. It makes a great meal and the leftovers always get eaten.

I find this to sound bland as well. So I sautéed angus ground beef, chorizo onion and garlic together in a sauce pan then drained the fat. After that I mixed in a can of cream of mushroom in the meat and layered cheese on top and frozen cheesy broccoli and then added the bisquick and egg mixture on top. I needed some vegetables so I added the broccoli. I also seasoned the bisquick mixture with garlic powder a little bit of salt and pepper.

I used sweet Italian sausage instead of hamburger, added green beans as well. I used mozzarella instead of chedder. Smelled and tasted great!

I thought this looked pretty bland as I prepared it, so I added a hot pepper to the onion and added garlic powder, cumin and a little chili powder to the egg mixture. It turned out good. I would say this is a good base recipe.

Good easy recipe but bland if you do not add any spices/seasoning. The baking time for me took about 45 minutes.
