BREAD PUDDING 
4 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1 or 2 tbsp. vanilla
5 eggs
6-7 slices bread
1/3 of 8 oz. box raisins
1 sliced apple (optional)

HARD SAUCE:

Blend 1 stick butter and sugar to desired consistency. Add whiskey to taste.

Scald milk, add sugar, butter and vanilla. Beat eggs, add milk mixture slowly to eggs. Break bread in small pieces and place in 2 greased loaf pans. Add raisins and apple. Pour milk mixture over bread, raisins and apple. Let stand 1/2 hour or longer. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

If meringue is desired, use 6 eggs and separate whites of 3 eggs and use to make meringue, top pudding and brown.
