FRENCH FRIED POTATOES 
4-6 potatoes
1 c. flour
3/4 to 1 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper

Wash potatoes and boil until almost tender. Drain water off and cool. Quarter potatoes and dip in flour mixture.

Mix flour, buttermilk, salt and pepper to make a thin coating for potatoes. Dip potatoes in mixture and French fry until golden brown.

What exactly does "French" fry mean? Is this deep frying in oil or is it frying in a skillet? If it is deep frying in oil, what kind of oil is best for a crispy result? I am not looking for a nutritious french fry but a really tasty one like you used to be able to get before everything turned health conscious.
