CHESS PIE 
1 (9 inch) pastry shell, unbaked
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. flour
1/4 c. butter
3 lg. eggs
Pinch of salt
3/4 c. buttermilk
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. vinegar

Partially bake pastry shell at 400°F for about 7 minutes or until it is clear and dry but not brown. Combine sugar and flour. Cream butter; add sugar mixture and remaining ingredients. Beat well and pour into pastry shell.

Bake at 400°F until brown on top.

Reduce heat to 350°F and bake until filling is set, about 30 minutes. Garnish with 1/2 walnut meats or pecans on each piece.
