ITALIAN MEAT SAUCE 
1 c. chopped onion
1 lb. ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
1/4 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
1 bay leaf
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
1/4 c. snipped parsley
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. monosodium glutamate
1 1/2 tsp. dried oregano

In a Dutch oven, combine meat, onion and garlic; cook until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain off grease, add remaining ingredients and 2 cups of water. Simmer uncovered for 3 hours, or until sauce is thick, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaf, serve over hot spaghetti noodles. Serves 6.
