OATS CAKE 
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1/2 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 well-beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. oats

Pour 1 1/4 cups boiling water over 1 cup oats. Let stand 20 minutes. Mix together 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup white sugar, 1 cup brown sugar. Add 2 well-beaten eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla, oats mixture, 1 1/2 cups sifted flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon salt. Bake in flat pan at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

FROSTING:

While cake is still warm, mix frosting and spread on cake. Brown under broiler, just a minute or so, 6 tablespoons melted butter, 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup milk, 1 cup coconut.
