BEAN SOUP 
1 c. navy beans

Soak overnight. Pour off water. Cover again with water and boil until done, about 2 hours.

6 slices bacon, fried crisp

(I do mine in the microwave with paper towels.) Crumble. Saute 1 onion, chopped, in a little oil or broth. Add 1 can tomatoes and simmer for 1/2 hour. Stir in the cooked beans and simmer over low heat, stirring often, for at least another 30 minutes. Add milk (I use skim). This is high in fiber and protein.
