CALDO GALLEGO 
1/2 lb. white beans, with water or chicken broth to cover
3 cut-up potatoes
1/2 lb. diced smoked ham
1 lb. fresh chopped kale
3 turnips, peeled and sliced
1 sliced onion
Fresh ground pepper to taste

Bring beans to almost boil over medium simmer. Add all other ingredients and simmer on low until beans are cooked and vegetables are soft. Soup will thicken over several hours. Serve with crusty French bread.
